DECORATIVE DISHES
These decorative dishes are pieces that I return to time and again. The process of working in the round is very slow as it takes time for the cut pieces to adhere to the curved surface but it is a meditative process - turning the work to ensure there is balance without symmetry, mixing the materials so that there is brightness but also some subtlety.
The dishes are individually hand cut tesserae on a turned bamboo or wooden base which is then painted and sealed. This is a lightweight substrate which means that they can be simply hung on the wall using standard picture hooks or placed on a table and used decoratively. The grout used is also food safe so they can be used for fruit for example - the surface is wipe clean with a damp cloth.
