WALL PIECES
The wall pieces I make vary from small lightweight works to larger garden installations. Each work is made with thousands of Italian vitreous glass and French porcelain tesserae - hand cut and individually placed, occasionally interspersed with Murano glass, Italian smalti, marble and stone. These are fixed to a solid MDF or Tricoya (an extra durable MDF-type product for exteriors) depending on the final location and are ready to hang with appropriate fixings.
Inspiration comes from travel, topography, cartography, toponomy amongst other subjects and has provided the starting point for many pieces together with studies in music, poetry and geometry. Recent research into textiles has resulted in a new series of works exploring how to represent soft and woven fabric using the hard and solid materials of mosaic.
